The Monona Grove Silver Eagles will play the De Pere Redbirds 7 p.m. Friday, October 21, at John Klement Athletic Complex for Level 1 of the WIAA Division 2 football playoffs.
De Pere, of the Fox River Classic Conference, was 4-5 for the season, finishing eighth in their conference. The Redbirds were outscored163-130 points this season.
De Pere has an approximate enrollment of about 1224, compared to Monona Grove’s 927.
The De Pere Redbirds won the Division 3 State Championship in 1992.

If the undefeated Silver Eagles defeat De Pere, they would face the winner of Green Bay Southwest and Fort Atkinson, which MG defeated on Sept. 23 41-14. Fort scored the most points against the Silver Eagles out of any MG opponent this season.
If MG were to advance in the playoffs, the first time the Silver Eagles would have to play playoff rival and two-time WIAA Division 2 defending champion Waunakee would be in the final this year.
In MG’s last trip to the final in 2004, the Silver Eagles fell to Waukesha West 24-7. MG won state titles in 1977 and 1984 under Coach Dick Rundle.
