After a crushing victory of 49-14 over De Pere last Friday night, the Monona Grove football team will next play Green Bay Southwest at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 29, at John Klement Athletic Complex.

Monona Grove’s head coach Mike Stassi was pleased with the team’s performance against the Redbirds.

“I think our kids did a great job tonight, and I think they did a great job all week preparing for this game,” Stassi said after the game.

Among the seven touchdowns scored by MG, one of them came off a play some students may have recognized from this fall’s pep assembly.  Theron Baumann, senior offensive lineman, scored a touchdown in the second quarter off a goal line rushing play designed for a lineman.

“It felt good,” Baumann said.  “I never thought Coach Stassi was gonna call it, but he finally did.”
The Silver Eagles will now move on to the Level 2 playoff round and face Green Bay Southwest.  The Southwest Fighting Trojans are now 8-2 for the year after defeating Fort Atkinson last Saturday 41-13.

Senior quarterback Caleb Choate said, “I feel it’s gonna be a tough one.  We’re gonna have to really bring it Saturday.  We’ve been practicing really hard and working our fundamentals, and I’m getting mentally ready.”

Southwest High School has an enrollment of about 1304, compared to Monona Grove’s enrollment of 927.  Southwest has never won a state championship in football.
